Ceilings of the house have all be painted, and I'd like to restore them back to wood
Hi Stan,
I moved in just down the street from you at BA's old house. I'm looking for some advice about a home improvement project and was wondering if you have heard of any other Rummer owners who have done the same. The ceilings of the house have all be painted, and I'd like to restore them back to wood. I've started doing it myself in one of the smaller rooms and am finding it to be an incredible amount of work. I've went the route of using stripping chemicals and elbow grease. The results look pretty good, but the amount of work required to scour off the lowest layer of primer is enormous. I don't think it will be feasible to do the entire house myself. Do you know of any painters or contractors who do this kind of work?
Thanks,
-MP
Hello and welcome to the Rummer Connection.
Can anyone give MP some suggestions as to who to use or a better solution to his paint removal.
I used a water soluble paint remover called Citris Gel stripper to do our kitchen ceiling.
Thanks for the help,
Stan
This is the company I used for much of my remodel: http://www.moveinready.com/
They know paint most of all. Berenice, the owner, will be able to tell you what needs done and give you an estimate.

Hey M,
I think the only way to do an entire house is to sandblast them. That's what lots of people restoring Rummers (with painted ceilings) are forced to do. I have no idea what the cost is, but it would happen way faster. I don't know of a good company, but I'm sure others do.
JM (across the street)
I've heard there's a glass bead blast they can do that works like sand blasting but for wood. For results vs time it would most likely be the best. Steam removers or heat guns are another option, that'll bring the paint down in sheets that'll solidify again for less mess and clean up.
